Life Coaching for Expat Executives & Experts
Life Coaching for Expat Executives & Experts

Hartmut Samtleben, your expat coach and mentor

Expatriate in Amsterdam, Executive, Coach, Mentor – let me help you feel at home in Amsterdam.

I can deeply relate to the situation expats find themselves in. After growing up in Hamburg, I have spent almost two decades of my life outside of my home country. Following stations in Paris, Chicago, and Bonn, I have been living in Amsterdam since 2010.

I also understand the challenges experts and executives face in their work, the long hours and the impact on their ability to integrate. I myself have held many roles, and am currently leading Adobe's Learning Services for EMEA. You can also find more detail on LinkedIn.

Lastly, I get what factor your private life plays in integrating in your new environment. For me, my family always was a major source of energy and stability, but also a reason to not seek more connections.

Some of my hobbies, like listening to tricky music and roaming through virtual worlds, did not do much to meet new people in Amsterdam. Others, like long-distance running and Karate, helped me to get to know may inspiring people and form the basis of friendships.

Since 2012, I have been studying the field of Individual Psychology and the basic principles of human perception and motivation.

This provided a multitude of insights into interaction between humans, which I am leveraging to lead teams and to coach and mentor aspiring leaders at Adobe and expatriates in Amsterdam.

The powerful framework of Individual Psychology helps us understand the fundamental drives of human beings for a feeling of community and an achievement of superiority.

It explains how we build our very own worldview and define our own goals, and how this drives our interaction with fellow human beings.

Adler stressed the importance of understanding the finality of a person – their motivation and goals – as the key to understanding their actions. As human beings, we are goal-oriented.

And so – since I already do have a full-time job that keeps me busy – maybe you'd like to know what I am doing this coaching for?

Hartmut Samtleben

Looking back at over 20 years living abroad, I realize that this expat life is not only invigorating and stimulating, but also difficult and sometimes lonely. There are lots of things that I wish I had known when I first moved abroad, there are pointers that would have helped me, and there is encouragement (and nudging) that I would have appreciated.

So this is a chance for me to give back to people who are just starting their expat journey, and hopefully contribute to making their lives a little bit better.

And I also love to coach. It gives me significant joy to work with people, to help them gain insights into who they are and what drives them.

And when a coachee has a eureka moment, transcends an inner boundary, and is encouraged to take the next step, it warms my heart.

But again, that's really enough about me, because this is about you.

Contact me if you feel I can help you with reflection and encouragement to feel connected and at home in Amsterdam.
